Capt. Surender Malhan: Education, Experience.
1. (a) EDUCATION: I graduated from NDA (top military academy in India, like West Point). Masters in Computer Science from IIT (top university in India like MIT or Harvard). BTech (Electronics and Communication). BSc (Science). During my BTech and MTech, couple of times I corrected my Professors. Left Army in Feb 1993 as a Captain. Came to US in Mar 1995. Started SpaceAge -- Software Services firm in May 1996.
(b) My work at SpaceAge is intellectually challenging. I train those out of work, those unable to find work. I train them for 6 to 12 months in the most intellectually challenging technologies. For a trainee, this training is more intellectually challenging than doing a Ph.D. in Computer Science.
(c) The most important aspect of training is not merely teaching technology/programming/software engineering - but to teach logical thinking, analytical thinking, lateral thinking (creative problem solving), positive thinking, believing in oneself, mind programming , yoga, meditation, breathing exercises (pranayama). The training program at SpaceAge is like going to the gym - exercising brain muscles for logical thinking, memory, creative thinking, positive thinking, etc.
(d) Since May 1996, I have coached, mentored, launched and catapulted the careers of, trained, taught and supervised the work of over 200 software engineers; few professors, one was a Professor in Computer Science, and several individuals who had PhDs in Computer Science, including individuals who had PhD and Post Doctoral Degree from Harvard.
2. Self Education: Since 1977 I have studied well over a 100 books on a wide range of topics - Psychology, Management, Leadership, Self Development, Military History, etc. (In recent years) Google and YouTube is a wonderful resource.
3. Since 1977, I have been devoting a major portion of my leisure time to studying and guiding the mental, moral, psychological and intellectual development of children and adults. In this area, I have done such work, that few with a Ph.D., in Psychology do.
4. Since 1977, I have studied, researched and worked with children and adults in area of self development, self improvement, personality development, character development, behavioral modification, developing human potential, leadership, management, etc. 5. Since 1975, I have been involved in some way, shape or form - with teaching, coaching, mentoring, education - of children and adults.---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "I have never let my schooling interfere with my education." -- Mark Twain. From my essay on Reading for Self Development: The Great University of Life: The end of school or college is not the end of education but the beginning of, the life long process of self-education. Education is successful only if it has been able to teach the student, how to go about the process of acquiring knowledge oneself. "Give me a fish and I eat for a day. Teach me how to fish and I eat for a life time." A good education system ought to teach us 'how to fish', how to go about the life long process of self-education. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- SELF EDUCATION : PARTIAL LIST OF BOOKS I HAVE STUDIED SINCE 1975 (TILL DATE).1.
